What is Eicar method?
Eicar is a test file (68 Bytes length) with a known signature used to establish the fact that your signature-based AV is working.

How can test if you are safe ( your computer is protected by an antivirus program or solution ) ?
It is very easy, this method is supported by most leading vendors, such as IBM, McAfee, Sophos, Symantec/Norton, Bitdefender, Avira, Avast, etc..

Create a simple and emty TXT file on your computer (like eicar.txt) and copy and paste the following string X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H* on your emty file, or Download TXT file with same string on your PC. This method is absolutly safe, because it is just a txt file, nothing else or any virus part. If you can download, save and read this file with the same string, or if you can create an free txt file and paste the string and safe on your local computer, that means you don't have any antivirus protection, or your antivirus file is disabled. This method is EICAR methos (European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research) and it is recognised by many antivirus programs. Also you can test your antivirus with eicar method under windows or linux OS. In linux we tested the eicar method with Sophos Av and work fine.

Eicar method it is a safe method. This is file similar with a virus, and when you will try to write to your PC / Laptop or any device , the Antivirs program will detect it and will block that file.
